While we wait for the Asrai to be fully baked, let's cover some ground. 🍪

While I have dabbled in some web dev areas, I am not a programmer by trade, I am an artist and I have always been clear about that. Despite having some technical chops, this has had quite the learning curve. I have some progress I can show while the Asrai are actively being worked on, but before sharing I would like to clear the air where I can.

I would prefer to be honest here: When we agreed to take on the Fae it was to keep them going. It was not a sign up for being harassed. Please do your best to be kind to us as a group and individuals. We want the Asrai out as much as you do (possibly more) and we appreciate how much kindness and grace many of you have shown. I know it stinks to hear it again, but your patience is appreciated. If you cannot be nice to staff, we ask you to please consider being quiet. It is ok to be frustrated, it is not ok to take it out on us. In return, we do our best to treat everyone with a higher standard of respect.

The Asrai were handed over unfinished, not yet ready to release, with the code (mostly) uncommented and without a manual. That’s not uncommon for single dev projects, but inheriting a project is potentially harder than starting one on your own in some ways when it comes to this. They were very nearly finished in both art and code side, but they were not in a releasable state at the time of transfer and still remain unfinished. While there’s a lot of code that is referenced from the fairies, some code has needed to be reviewed as the Asrai have different features.

The transfer itself has been a strain on many relationships, friendships within the staff both past and present, including some relationships ended over how difficult the transition has been and the emotional turmoil of the various situations that lead up to the changes in staff. We wish the best to all those who have contributed to the Fae regardless of where our personal relationships stand at the moment, and hope everyone is happier and healthier going forward.

This is a Labor of Love.

We are not the large size the company once was, we are continuing this project because we don’t want to see it come to an end. As it stands, it only barely breaks even. There is a beautiful illusion that behind every SL business is someone doing pretty well for themselves, certainly some do. However, the Fae are currently a labor of love, kept alive by stubbornness and a wish to see the Fae keep going.

There are only 3 Fae Team Members.

As a company, we currently have 3 people working on the Fae, that is Carolynn handling support and community management and most day to day tasks, myself handling the majority of the art and programming and technical management, and Kitten handling customer support and community. Information from outside this circle should be considered a rumor at best, and potentially misinformation at worst.

Official info comes from a member of staff or our official channels - Carolynn, the fae groups, group announcements, is posted on our mainstore area, on our website or from our trusted partners when appropriate.

At the moment, there are no official peripheral Fae Team members who provide support to the Fae team. Even if there were, peripheral team members are not better informed than the Official team or myself, the developer on the project. 😭

What is the cause for the delay?

Each of our team has dealt with their own major life changes since taking this project on. Despite those changes and challenges, our team continues to work to get the Asrai released while also supporting the Fae. In as many ways as possible we are doing our best, in each of our responsibilities. The project has also had some serious technical difficulties in the past due to the handover and move to different hosting providers. I am happy to say a lot of these issues have been resolved, but as they say “avoid single points of failure.” Unfortunately, we don’t have that, and I don’t believe in sacrificing my health or sanity no matter how much I love this project or our community.

Will the Fae continue?

There are planned updates to the Fairies alongside the Asrai, as cultural exchange between the Fae societies tends to do! Despite some gossip, the intention was never to allow the Fae to fade out completely. They will continue to have LEs and upkeep and hopefully a major update in time.

When are the Asrai releasing?

I cannot give a date. It would be a lie to say I can set one, likely have a complication and not live up to it, then disappoint everyone further. When the Asrai are done, our team will be the first to know. Our Market Partners and close supporters (pre-orders) will likely be made aware next, and the community will be updated last. We will announce it far and wide, and you will not miss it.

What about the re-

Posts made by former members of staff should not be taken as a promise and are not considered policy. Enquiries about any such promises should be directed to the former staff members involved, if they would personally like to issue followup. If they wanted to see those through they should have officially 1) listened to the current owners who made their feelings clear before the and after the company transition before the infamous announcement was made without our consent, 2) stayed members of the team, and 3) seen things through to completion to the best of their ability. In lieu of this, please stop asking for more than you would ask from other SL small business owners. We are not amazon or walmart, salaries have been paid, expenses have been covered, and there is not “buffer” to be had, and hadn’t been for months even before the company was handed over. Times are hard for many people, and I truly empathize, but we are not a corporation, we are a tiny business living up to our original promise to release a product to beta testing while keeping our original product going.

What if I am leaving SL/moved on to other breedable companies can I have a-

In the nicest way possible, we are not a bank, large corporation, charity or able to cover the changing whims of the consumer. We will likely not be doing pre-orders in the future as this has caused a lot of stress within the community, but kindly we cannot provide refunds. You would not ask for refunds from most tiny businesses in real life. Other breedable companies are often given ample time to finalize a product. I am sorry if that is disappointing to hear, I too have bought things I changed my mind about, but ultimately I don’t believe I have ever asked a SL creator for a refund.

Thanks for catching up, hearing me out, and above all - please know I understand your frustrations. I share many of them myself. I am doing my best given the circumstances and I know Carolynn and Kitten are too. Please do not take it out on them, given neither one of them have any more power to finish things through than me, and simply because you see them more does not make it OK to shoot the messengers. We are in this together, we want the Asrai released as soon as possible.

I plan to spend some time being “head down” in Asrai code, and hopefully my next update holds a more concrete timeline, and relief. I ask, please take anything you overhear with a grain of salt, and please question who is sharing info and why, and hang in there for the next steps. We’ll do our best, it’s all we can do. Please forward any in-game support to Kitten and/or Carolynn, they will not only be faster to assist than me, but will be infinitely more useful to you.
